The core differences between the two lie mainly in their molecular structure, penetration ability, and application.

1. Molecular Weight Difference: Regular hyaluronic acid typically has a molecular weight between hundreds of thousands and millions of Daltons, with a relatively long molecular chain and stable structure. Oligomeric hyaluronic acid has a lower molecular weight, usually around several thousand to ten thousand Daltons, belonging to small molecule or oligomeric products, with a shorter molecular structure.

2. Different Mechanisms of Action: Regular hyaluronic acid mainly acts on the skin surface, forming a moisturizing film in the stratum corneum to reduce moisture loss and enhance the skin barrier function. Therefore, it is often used in basic moisturizing products. Oligomeric hyaluronic acid, due to its smaller molecular size, can more easily penetrate into the stratum corneum to participate in moisture regulation, emphasizing the concept of "deep hydration" or "penetrating moisturizing." It is more commonly used in functional skincare products.

3. Differences in Application Areas: Regular hyaluronic acid is widely used in face creams, serums, masks, and as a filler in medical aesthetic procedures. Oligomeric hyaluronic acid, on the other hand, is more commonly used in high-end repair or functional products to enhance absorption and activity.

4. Different Formulation Requirements: Both have the same chemical structure, but the smaller the molecular weight, the higher the requirements for purity control and formulation stability. In actual products, hyaluronic acid with different molecular weights is often used in combination to achieve both surface hydration and internal moisturizing effects.

Summary: Regular hyaluronic acid focuses on surface moisturizing and barrier protection; oligomeric hyaluronic acid emphasizes penetration and functional hydration. The choice should be based on product positioning and usage needs, rather than simply comparing molecular size.
