Methods of Using Sodium Hyaluronate Powder in Cosmetic Raw Materials
Sodium hyaluronate, a widely used and highly effective moisturizing ingredient in cosmetics, is an important ingredient in many skincare formulations due to its excellent hydrophilicity and skin compatibility. Sodium hyaluronate in powder form is commonly used in cosmetic production and research, personalized formulation, and the raw material supply chain. Its proper dissolution and addition methods directly affect the final texture and efficacy of the product.
In practice, sodium hyaluronate powder is usually prepared into a transparent aqueous solution before being added to other formulation systems. It is generally recommended to use purified water, distilled water, or deionized water for dissolution to ensure the purity and stability of the solution. The concentration is usually controlled within the range of 0.1% to 1%. For example, when preparing 100g of basic hyaluronic acid solution, 0.1 to 1g of sodium hyaluronate powder can be added as needed. During operation, the powder is slowly sprinkled into the water while continuously stirring to ensure even dispersion and gradual expansion and dissolution, ultimately forming a transparent, slightly viscous solution. For better dissolution, it can be allowed to stand for a period of time to allow the powder to fully absorb water and expand.

Sodium hyaluronate of different molecular weights has different functions in cosmetics:
- High molecular weight sodium hyaluronate mainly forms a moisturizing film on the skin's surface, reducing moisture evaporation and improving skin softness and smoothness;
- Low molecular weight sodium hyaluronate penetrates more easily into the stratum corneum, providing deep hydration;
- Oligo sodium hyaluronate has greater permeability, promoting skin activity and increasing moisture content and elasticity.
Therefore, in formulation applications, multiple molecular weights are often used in combination to form a three-dimensional moisturizing system from the surface to the deep layers, enhancing the overall efficacy and skin feel of the product.
When adding sodium hyaluronate solution to cosmetics, it is widely applicable to aqueous systems such as toners, serums, creams, lotions, and gel masks. It is generally recommended to add it during the aqueous phase and stir at low temperatures to avoid high temperatures damaging its structural activity.
