Mechanism of Hyaluronic Acid in Nighttime Skincare
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring polysaccharide molecule found in human skin, joints, and eye tissues, possessing extremely strong water-absorbing and moisturizing capabilities. In skincare, hyaluronic acid is widely used in facial serums, lotions, and masks, playing a particularly important role in nighttime skincare.
Nighttime is a critical period for skin self-repair and metabolism. During sleep, blood circulation in the skin accelerates, metabolism is active, and the cells' ability to absorb nutrients is enhanced. Simultaneously, the skin barrier repair speed is faster than during the day. Furthermore, using hyaluronic acid at night can also promote the stability of the skin's microenvironment. Studies have shown that hyaluronic acid can regulate the distribution of water between cells, providing a favorable hydration environment for skin cells and supporting cell proliferation and repair processes. This has a positive effect on reducing fine lines and improving skin texture. Hyaluronic acid can also work synergistically with other active ingredients, such as peptides, vitamins, or plant extracts, to enhance the permeability and stability of the ingredients, making nighttime skincare more effective.
It's important to note that different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid result in slightly different mechanisms of action. High molecular weight hyaluronic acid primarily forms a moisturizing film on the skin's surface, while low or medium molecular weight hyaluronic acid can penetrate into the dermis, providing deep hydration. Therefore, in nighttime skincare, choosing hyaluronic acid with an appropriate molecular weight and using it in conjunction with a serum or lotion can maximize its moisturizing and repairing effects.
