Clinical Studies of Hyaluronic Acid in Skin Wound Healing

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring polysaccharide molecule found in human connective tissue and the dermis. It has a strong water-absorbing capacity, maintaining tissue moisture and elasticity. After skin injury, hyaluronic acid not only forms a protective barrier to prevent bacterial invasion but also provides hydration to damaged tissue, maintaining cell vitality and thus accelerating the healing process.

Clinical studies have shown that topical hyaluronic acid preparations can significantly shorten healing time in mild to moderate skin trauma (such as lacerations, burns, and postoperative wounds). For example, some randomized controlled trials have shown that patients using hyaluronic acid dressings experienced significantly faster scab formation and epithelialization than the control group, while also experiencing reduced pain and inflammation. Hyaluronic acid provides multiple supports for wound healing by promoting fibroblast proliferation, stimulating collagen synthesis, and regulating inflammatory responses.

In addition, hyaluronic acid can improve scar formation. Studies have found that using hyaluronic acid in the early stages of wound healing can reduce the thickness of scar tissue, making new skin softer and smoother. This gives it potential value in wound care after cosmetic surgery and plastic surgery.

Although hyaluronic acid is effective in wound healing, clinical use still requires consideration of the wound type and patient condition, selecting the appropriate molecular weight and dosage form (such as gel, dressing, or spray). Overall, hyaluronic acid, with its good biocompatibility, safety, and ability to promote tissue repair, is becoming an important tool in modern skin wound care, providing patients with a faster and safer recovery path.
