Key Features
Hyaluronic acid can help protect skin from UVB radiation, thereby preventing sunspots, wrinkles, and skin damage. We use two different types: low molecular weight and extremely low molecular weight.
Extremely low molecular weight HA can penetrate more deeply into the skin layers, making it more effective at slowing down aging. It not only forms a protective layer on the skin but also fights free radicals caused by UV exposure. This means free radicals don't get the chance to attack your skin, leaving it calmer, clearer, and with fewer blemishes.
HA is like water in a sponge—it swells with air and absorbs moisture. It doesn't add moisture to the skin; it simply replenishes it.
Hyaluronic acid helps lock moisture into the skin, making it more hydrated. Moisturizers and oil-based serums contain oils that help repair the skin's barrier layer, which seals moisture into the skin and prevents it from evaporating.
HA has natural soothing properties, so if you have acne or redness, it will calm your skin while moisturizing it.
When combined with proteoglycans and collagen, it helps with skin surface repair as well as reducing itching and sensitivity.
A 2014 study examined participants using topical hyaluronic acid in various forms, including lotions, serums, and creams. The results showed that, regardless of the delivery method, these products increased skin hydration by up to 96% after eight weeks of use. The substance helps the skin retain moisture and can even reduce inflammation and soreness by supporting the skin's natural healing processes—specifically by minimizing cracking caused by dryness. Participants applied hyaluronic acid topically twice daily for eight weeks; compared to those who did not use the acid, they experienced a 40% reduction in wrinkle depth and a 55% increase in skin firmness and elasticity.
How to add hyaluronic acid to your skincare routine
Moisturizers and serums are the two most common forms of hyaluronic acid.
Moisturizer: Use a moisturizer containing hyaluronic acid at least twice daily, morning and night, applying it each time after cleansing, exfoliating, or applying serum.
Serum: A hyaluronic acid serum is best used after cleansing. Before your skin dries, pat a few drops onto your face with your palms. Follow up immediately with a high-quality nourishing moisturizer to lock in all the moisture.
Hyaluronic acid works well with most common skincare ingredients, even acidic ones.
You can see the effects of a serum or cream immediately, but they will fade. As with most types of skincare products, optimal results are typically seen within 4 to 6 weeks of consistent use.
